You need the store name and address, the date and time of purchase, each item description with its price and quantity, any discounts applied, the tax amount, and the total paid. The more detail you have from a bank statement or memory, the more accurate the recreated receipt will be.

Visit the store's customer service desk with your payment card and approximate purchase date. Many chains can reprint a receipt from their register records within 30 to 90 days. Loyalty program members can often find past receipts in the store's app or website order history.

It depends on the state. Most US states exempt unprepared food like produce, meat, and packaged goods from sales tax. Items like soft drinks, candy, prepared hot food, and non-food products are usually taxable. Your receipt will show a tax code or indicator next to each taxable item.

For personal budgeting or household tracking, a recreated receipt works fine. For formal business expense reimbursement, check your employer's policy. Many companies require an original or bank-statement-verified record for grocery claims, especially when submitting for tax purposes.
